Documentary premiere to benefit CEFS 10% Campaign

The Center for Environmental Farming Systems 10% Campaign is the major beneficiary of the premier of “Freshly Retired,” a fund-raising screening of the documentary about a Charlotte retirement community making the transition from frozen foods to fresh produce. The short screening will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 14 at the Cookery in Durham. The $10 tickets for the fundraiser also cover pizza and opportunities to win prizes. Ticket holders will receive a bingo card at the door that may prove good for prizes. Pizza will be provided by the Pie Pushers food truck that’s a mainstay on the Durham foodie scene.

“Freshly Retired” is part of a series of documentaries that Durham-based Vittles Films has produced to explore “how the food we grow and the way we eat it informs our identity, culture and community.” Tickets can be purchased at the Vittles website.

The NC 10% Campaign is a CEFS initiative that has been working to get North Carolinians to commit 10 percent of their food dollars to local producers since July 2010.
