Registration deadline for Small Farms Week is March 16
March 16 is the registration deadline for the Small Farms Week activities taking place March 22-28. This year’s Small Farms Week kickoff is Monday, March 23, in Yancey County — home of the 2014 Small Famer of the Year, Ryan Wiebe. The kickoff program includes a panel discussion with a farmer who’s also a chemist, the coordinator of a community garden and the son of a Small Farmer of the Year who has gone on to a graduate degree in horticulture and a career in Cooperative Extension. Trans-generational farming is the focus for a panel of experts at one discussion on the A&T campus on March 25 and "Youth in Food Systems" is the focus at another. The featured speaker at the 2015 Small Farmers Recognition Luncheon on March 25 is Dr. Chavonda Jacobs-Young, director of USDA’s Agricultural Research Service.
